In a world of rush rush rush and go go go, it is much easier to use plastic plates, utensils, and cups during dinner than to dirty our home plates and wash them. Time is money and some R&R after a long day at work beats having to do chores (but is it a lack of time or laziness?).

Let’s do the math!

  • According to Quartz Media, 73% of Americans watch an average of 5 hours of shows using some sort of digital device.
  • According to One Green Planet, 6 tons of single use disposable plastic, such as forks, knives, and spoons are dumped into the garbage each year. Most of it ending up in landfills or our oceans. Although most people believe that everything thrown into the famous blue recycling bin is recycled, according to a National Geographic article, “85 percent of the world’s plastic is not recyclable.”
  • According to JustStand.org, the average person spends 12 hours a day sitting around. It accounts for the time spent commuting, sitting at the office, and once at home.

For our own health, we should be moving more on a daily basis and for the health of our earth, we should avoid disposable tableware as much as possible. So there, it is a win win for all. Let’s get moving in the kitchen and saving the earth at the same time.
